Caroline Jones studied recorder at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with BA(Hons), LTCL, ABSM and LWCMD (Distinction). Caroline is an SRP Musical Adviser and a familiar face conducting SRP events, recorder orchestras and recorder festivals throughout the country - “infectious enthusiasm,” “inspirational”, “musically and technically brilliant” (The Recorder Magazine).
Having taught for Warwick, Coventry and Birmingham Universities and Warwickshire College, Caroline now enjoys teaching freelance from beginners to advanced students both in person and online. She organises school workshops and adult courses, including Benslow Recorder Festival and the new Monmouth Recorder Course with Tabea Debus.
Caroline joined SRP Wales as a student in 1983, she was Musical Director of Birmingham branch of the Society of Recorder Players from 2014-2022 and is now Musical Director of Wales Branch.
Caroline moved back to her home town of Abergavenny in 2019. She conducts five new groups, together with Rugby Recorder Ensemble and A.R.O. These are Rusty Recorders, Craig Ddu, Black Mountains Recorders and an advanced ensemble, Mynydd Du. All ensembles enjoy a very wide range of music styles from medieval to 21st century.
In March 2024 Caroline organised the first National SRP Festival to be held in Wales, generously helped by all the above groups.
Caroline has wanted to form a Wales Recorder Orchestra (WRO) for some years. This has now become a reality with Caroline and Lyndon Hilling sharing the conducting.
Caroline’s regular accompanists are Samuel Howley and Charles Matthews. She and Charles also collaborate with viol player Alison Crum.
